Early Childhood Education
The foundation has designed a comprehensive programme focused on three key initiatives: Teacher Training and Childcare Worker Training ; the Establishment of Early Childhood Development (ECD) Centres, and the Establishment of a Training Centre for Childcare Workers. These initiatives aim to improve the quality of education, care, and support provided to children and their primary and secondary caregivers.
Teacher and Caregiver Training
This aims at enhance the effectiveness of caregivers and educators working with children between 0 and 12 . Curated training to caregivers and teachers will equip them with the skills to create a dynamic and developmentally appropriate learning environment. Teachers will be trained in key areas such as child development theories, active learning strategies, and play-based education. Additionally, our work focuses on behavioral management techniques, digital literacy for teaching, and methods for continuous assessment and feedback. This comprehensive approach will ensure that teachers are prepared to support children’s academic, social, and emotional growth. The expected outcome is to foster a cadre of educators who can create an engaging, nurturing environment for children, resulting in improved learning outcomes.
Establishment of Early Childhood Development Centres
Our Centres aim to create accessible, high-quality learning environments for children under 5 years old. Over the next year, the Foundation will collaborate with local authorities, to establish 10 centres. These centres will provide a curriculum tailored to the developmental needs of young children, emphasizing early literacy, numeracy, and social skills – as per the nurturing care framework. In addition to educational programming, the centres will integrate health and nutrition initiatives to promote the well-being of children. Parent and community engagement will be an integral component, ensuring that the centres meet local needs and have ongoing support. The result will be the creation of multiple ECD centres that offer safe, stimulating, and supportive environments for children to thrive.
Establishment of a Training Centre for Childcare Workers
To be established in Busia County. The Training Centre is aimed at both existing childcare workers and newcomers to the field. The training centre will provide a comprehensive curriculum that covers the fundamentals of early childhood education, child protection, safeguarding, and emotional and social development. It will also include practical training in childcare techniques such as first aid, hygiene, and nutrition, ensuring that workers are well-prepared to meet the everyday needs of children in their care. Additionally, the programme will address professional ethics and career development, fostering a sense of professionalism within the workforce. By establishing a well-trained, knowledgeable workforce, the Foundation aims to ensure that childcare workers are equipped to provide high-quality care in ECD centres and communities.
