Girls’ Education

Supporting girls from disadvantaged backgrounds to access quality education, unlock opportunity, and shape their own futures.

Why Girls’ Education Matters

The Shima Foundation supports girls who would otherwise be unable to access quality education due to limited opportunities or challenging social and economic circumstances.

For girls affected by extreme poverty, drought, displacement, or orphanhood, the chances of succeeding in life are often slim. We believe education is the most powerful tool to break this cycle and open pathways to dignity, independence, and leadership.

Our Impact So Far

In recent years, we supported 8 girls from Bungoma and Busiathrough four years of secondary education. Our support combined:

All the girls successfully completed their secondary education and are now enrolled in various post-secondary colleges across Kenya — a powerful testament to what sustained support can achieve.

Our Approach

Our Girls’ Education programme goes beyond financial support. We combine scholarships with life-skills mentorship to ensure girls are equipped to succeed both academically and personally.

Through this holistic approach, girls gain confidence, resilience, and the skills needed to navigate education, relationships, and future careers.

Looking Ahead

Our ambition is to support hundreds of girls across Kenya to access and complete secondary education.

We believe that when girls stay in school, families thrive, communities strengthen, and future generations benefit.

Keep a Girl in School

Just KES 30,000 per year can keep a girl in secondary school and change the course of her life.
