Imagine a world where children and young people have equal access to high quality education and employment regardless of their social and economic backgrounds.

The Shima Leadership Academies Foundation creates opportunities for young girls and boys from marginalised backgrounds to access quality education and training opportunities that would usually not be readily available to them.

Our work addresses significant inequalities in society that limit the potential of a growing majority of young people, particularly women, to access the tools and training they need to achieve their highest potential.

VOLUNTEER TEACHING IN KENYA

Are you a school teacher (Year 7 and above)? Do you want to make a real difference to the lives of children and young people in Kenya? And do you want to help improve the teaching experience for Kenyan teachers? If so, we have opportunities for 10 volunteer teachers in our project in Kirinyaga, close to the picturesque Mt. Kenya.

You will teach students basic digital literacy skills in Kirinyaga, where you will be staying in the picturesque and rural village of Kagio, on the slopes of Mt. Kenya. Oh, do you like some super-thrilling adventure? Kagio is just 10 minutes away to your Bungee Jumping and Water rafting lifetime experience on Sagana River.

The region is full of beautiful sights and you will also surely be busy getting on with the task of understanding the local culture, learning a bit of Kiswahili and the local language, learning to cook (and enjoy) the local delicacies, while not forgetting the task of equipping the children with skills they need to navigate the world of education and personal development now and in future.

Imagine a school where girls from all backgrounds have access to high quality education and training that enables them to become exceptional leaders.

....That is the vision behind the Lluna Leadership Academy.

The Academy aims at providing high quality education to 400 girls every year, perpetually producing leaders that will have an impact on Kenyan society for generations to come… read more!
